Baden: classic city walk
"Baden is unmistakeably Austrian" Spa water, the flair of Biedermeier, vine culture, music, Congress and Casino, Natur and "Gemütlichkeit" charactarise this city. A reviving city walk between tradition and modern culture, includes the green market, Beethovenhaus, Kaiserhaus, City Theater, St. Stephan and the Kurpark.
Laxenburg was once a residency of the Habsburg family. Through the extensive English gardens one walks or drives by horse carriage and crosses a pond to reach the romantic castle. Not far from Laxenburg is the historic small town of Wiener Neustadt which also shows its strong connections to the Habsburgs.
Southern Viennese Woods
The Viennese Woods stimulate the body and soul. Our trip takes us through the Helenental, to the Carmelitesses in Mayerling and Cistercians in Heiligenkreuz with a view on medieval monasterial living. If you fancy a glass of wine to round up your day, the drive along the picturesque Weinstrasse ("wine street") will lead you to the numerous Heurigen selling local wine in Gumpoldskirchen.
Foothills of the Alps
A visit to the south of Lower Austria will lead you to Rax and Semmering, two of the highest mountains in the state, where the summer resort towns of the Fin de Siecle and the first mountain railway line with its impressive viaducts await you.
